Consider that the meaning of "sucker" is as in "being a sucker's trade", which is a more colloquial term to refer to "lose-win".
However, you're right, little point in referring to the "neutral definition" when in people's minds "sucker" is equivalent to "idiot".
Come to think of it, referring to a literal or neutral definition instead of the common usage one is a power move actually. In Italian, we have the "ignorant" (ignorante) word with the convenient cover of "I was using it in the sense of the person who ignores something".
